Join us on YouTube Live for a free virtual book talk with renowned food historian and author Jane Ziegelman and the Tenement Museum’s Director of Curatorial Affairs, Dave Favaloro, for an examination of how the crises of the early 20th century shaped Americans’ eating habits. In wartime and economic depression, what did immigrants cook and how did US-born Americans view the food made by their immigrant neighbors? What can we learn from these frugal cooks today? Jane will share some favorite recipes from her recent book, coauthored with husband Andrew Coe, A Square Meal: A Culinary History of the Great Depression.

Jane Ziegelman is also author of 97 Orchard Street: An Edible History of Five Immigrant Families in One New York Tenement.
