Event Location: YouTube Live
Cost: FREE/Suggested Donation
Join us on YouTube Live for a free virtual talk with Maddalena Marinari, author of Unwanted: Italian And Jewish Mobilization Against Restrictive Immigration Laws, 1882-1965. Weaving together political, social, and transnational history, Maddalena illuminates the impacts reformers had on influencing the country’s immigration policy as they mobilized against the immigration laws that marked them as undesirable and built a climate of anti-immigrant hysteria.
Maddalena Marinari teaches U.S. history at Gustavus Adolphus College. She has published extensively on immigration restriction and immigrant mobilization, including articles published in the Journal of Policy History and the Journal of American Ethnic History. She is the author of Unwanted: Italian And Jewish Mobilization Against Restrictive Immigration Laws, 1882-1965 and one of the co-editors of A Nation of Immigrants Reconsidered: U.S. Society in an Age of Restriction, 1924-1965. She is also one of the scholars who created the #ImmigrationSyllabus, an online tool for anyone interested in understanding the history behind current debates on immigration.
