BOCAGE

Although the term BOCAGE is known to collectors as a design on antique pottery, Stephanie Kheder’s new Lower East Side shop references a time period of embellishments and woodland décor similar to her decorative style. Upon visiting the Lower East Side for the first time, proprietor Kheder noticed the scarcity of craft stores in the area and thought it was perfect for her shop since it was known as “the heart of the garment industry.” Kheder, a native of the mid-west, planted her New York roots and opened BOCAGE right in our own backyard on the Lower East Side. At BOCAGE customers walk into a nook with cool colored walls and soft lights that make shopping a dream.

With its neatly stacked shelves of beads, brushes, buttons, lace, thread, pins, hooks, hand made appliqués, and necklaces BOCAGE has something for every collector. Whether you’re a fashionista hunting for cutting-edge accessories or an artist in search of authentic fabrics, BOCAGE is a bouquet of treasures representing the neighborhood for generations both young and old.

People interested in “customizing [their] wardrobe and being at the forefront of fashion can [always] find something new here since the products change everyday” says Khedar. Part of the fun at BOCAGE is hoarding and hunting in this sophisticated store full of high quality materials. Kheder takes pride in her having something for everyone’s tastes and lifestyles. Whether you like sleek or cutting edge designs BOCAGE is worth the trip because it serves up vintage styles in an even trendier way, and manages to give people a dose of the unimaginable.

If all of this sounds good to you but you’re not quite sure how to use it, not to worry! Stephanie offers personalized and small circle instructional classes (each two course costs $65) where you can learn the art of jewelry making, sewing, or digital imaging to name a few.
