Recollections:
The Antiques and Collectibles Shop
of the Tenement Museum

Whether you’re an avid antique collector, or just in the market for a piece reminiscent of the past Recollections: The Antiques and Collectibles Shop of the Tenement Museum has something to suit your taste.

As the newest enterprise to embody the look and feel of the Tenement Museum, Recollections offers visitors an opportunity to purchase a piece of history. Now you can take home furniture and household items similar to those found in many family homes from the periods of the 1860’s to 1950’s.

Normally thoughts of antique shops conjure up images of a dark dingy store with basement finds. Recollections surpasses common expectations and offers museum-goers, shoppers, and antique aficionados alike a bright, airy space.

With its antique door, oak counter, and reproduction wallpaper Recollections evokes the feeling of being in a tenement and captures the essence of the Tenement Museum’s historic building at 97 Orchard Street and appropriately houses items for each room in a tenement.

Upon entering the store one sees a selection of pottery, silverware, barware, depression glassware, and children’s toys. For those interested in items tenants would have used to work from home there are antique typewriters, a work station, and even sewing machines. In the “parlor” area (located in the back of the store) one can find shaving mirrors, a drop leaf table, chairs, and picture frames. The “kitchen” area has a selection of dolls, rolling pins, coffee mills, salt and pepper shakers, and of course stoves. There’s even a hygiene area with bath salts, scented lotions, and herbal remedies!

Worried about taking care of your antiques? Recollections has a line of products available for furniture maintenance and they also do antique repairs on table lamps starting at $25, floor lamps starting at $ 40, and Mogul-Based Lamps with prices starting at $75. Repairs can be dropped of seven days a week and estimates can be provided for chandeliers and antique clocks. If you have an old clock, lamp, or chandelier that needs to be refurbished you can trust Recollections will handle it with care.

So the next time you have a bit of time on your hands before your tour just take a walk over to Recollections. You never know what you’ll find!
