We offer guided tours of the tenement at 97 Orchard Street and the Lower East Side.
Public Tours are for individuals and small groups and less than 10. Tickets are required for public tours. We recommend purchasing advance tickets. Group Tours are for parties of 10 or more. We offer group tours to parties of adults and K-12 students. Reservations are required for group tours. ![]() Max and Jenny Levine Celebrate the 1897 birth of Max Levine in the apartment/garment shop run by his parents, Jennie and Harris from Poland. Then pay a shiva (bereavement) call to the Rogarshevsky family, mourning the loss of their father, Abraham, who worked as a presser in a garment factory until succumbing to tuberculosis in 1918.
![]() Adolfo Baldizzi Visit the apartments of the German-Jewish Gumpertz family in the 1870s and the Sicilian-Catholic Baldizzi family in the 1930s, and learn about the networks of support that were available to them during hard times. Discuss the development of social welfare in the United States, and compare the options that people had in the past to those that are available today.
![]() Victoria Confino, upper right, and friends This "living history" apartment takes visitors back to 1916 to meet Victoria Confino, a Sephardic-Jewish immigrant from Turkey. Played by a costumed interpreter, Victoria guides visitors as though they were new arrivals seeking information about life on the Lower East Side.
![]() This two-hour program includes a guided tour of the Museum and a facilitator-led dialogue. Starting with the past - America’s rich immigrant histories, combined with family memories - participants establish a foundation for discussion of more complex contemporary issues. This program can be geared to all types of audiences, including corporate groups and those seeking professional staff development. Dialogues on Diversity is offered in conjunction with either the Getting By or Piecing It Together tour.
![]() Furthering our mission to promote tolerance, the workshops address pressing issues and promote standards-based instruction. The Museum offers five interactive workshops that demonstrate ways to integrate the use of artifacts, primary source documents, mathematics, & personal narrative into the social studies curriculum. Each workshop is three hours, and a minimum of 10 educators and a maximum of 15 educators are allowed per workshop.

In collaboration with local residents, The Tenement has created a walking tour that looks at the neighborhood’s past and present, focusing on specific sites in both historical and contemporary context.

"Inside/Outside" combines The Getting By Tour with a 1-hour guided walking tour of the Lower East Side to make a 2-hour program. A rich look at the neighborhood, which remains a vital immigrant portal, the walking tour explores the public spaces and historic buildings that newcomers shaped and continue to shape.
