They have survived difficult periods in their lives and have emerged from the shadows in which they were placed, to impact the lives of those in New York City. The influence of immigrants extends far beyond stereotypically delineated professions. Although often otherwise documented, immigrants have had significant impacts in the fields of medicine, law, education, and other well respected posts.
