The Staten Island Ferry links Staten Island residents
to the rest of New York City
Staten Island is the third-largest borough of New York
City (with an area of 60 square miles). It is the least populated of the
five boroughs.
Staten Island is the most geographically
separate of the city's boroughs, as it is not connected to Manhattan by
any direct tunnel, bridge, or subway. It is connected to Brooklyn by the
Verrazanno-Narrows Bridge, and to lower Manhattan by the Staten Island
Ferry.
Often referred to as the "forgotten borough",
Staten Island, with a population of 443,728, is home to 39,704 Blacks/African
Americans, 24,905 Asians and Pacific Islanders, 599 American Indians and
Native Alaskans, and 53,550 Hispanics.
