Join us in learning about the lives of new immigrants living in Queens, New York, the "new Ellis Island," with co-authors Warren Lehrer and Judith Sloan of the award-winning
Crossing the BLVD: strangers, neighbors, aliens in a new America.
In 1999, Lehrer/Sloan founded EarSay, an artist-driven, non-profit organization dedicated to uncovering stories of the uncelebrated. Projects bridge the divide between documentary and expressive forms in books, onstage, in exhibitions, in sound, and in electronic media.
As one of these projects, Crossing the BLVD, documents the people they met during a three-year trek through their home borough of Queens, New York, the most ethnically diverse locality in the U.S. First person narratives are illuminated by strikingly direct photographic portraits of the subjects alongside the objects of their worlds.
