Margot Caso
Educator and Former LESTM ADA Coordinator

As former ADA Coordinator at the Tenement Museum, I can attest to the significance the Museum bears for the immigrant community. Being myself an immigrant, I recognize the value and importance of the Museum as a safe venue that gives immigrants a voice and celebrates our experiences.

Not only will the Museum’s expansion and acquisition of 99 Orchard greatly benefit the numerous schools groups who have come or wanted to come to the Museum over the years, it will also give visitors with disabilities the opportunity to experience life in a Tenement first hand. Although the Museum has developed a variety of programs for visitors with disabilities, due to structural limitations it is presently unable to accommodate visitors in wheelchairs. By expanding into 99 Orchard Street the Museum will be able to create spaces in compliance with the ADA Act and enable visitors with varying needs to experience the Museum in a safe and dignified manner.
