Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine

The United States boasts a culturally and ethnically diverse population which makes for a continually changing culinary landscape. Historical gastronomist Sarah Lohman discovered that American food is united by eight flavors: black pepper, vanilla, curry powder, chili powder, soy sauce, garlic, MSG, and Sriracha. New York Times food writer Melissa Clark joins Lohman in an evening that explores how these influential ingredients made their way to the American table, revealing elements about our past, present, and future.

Seating is first-come, first-served. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Books will be for sale with a 15% discount. If you have any questions, contact Laura Lee at or (646) 518-3032.
