Event Location: YouTube Live

Cost: FREE

Join the Tenement Museum’s Education Department for a journey into the history of pickles on the Lower East Side. Learn how Lower East Siders pickled their veggies 100 years ago, why the tradition of pickling was important for many immigrants from Eastern Europe, and how kids got a good deal on their pickle purchases. We’ll end the event with a short demo of how to make your own cucumber pickles at home!

When: 3:30-4:15 pm ET

Where: https://youtu.be/48UsmkzfGGw

Preparation: To make pickles you’ll need cucumbers, vinegar, sugar, water, and pickling spices. If cucumbers aren’t available, other vegetables work too! A heat source will be needed briefly and vegetables need to be chopped, either by kids or caregivers.

RSVP is not required but appreciated. Let us know you plan to attend!
