DOE Sponsored Virtual Field Trip: Victoria Confino
When: Wednesday, July 29, 2020, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm ET
Event Location: Zoom
Cost: FREE
Sponsored by the New York City Department of Education’s Office of Family and Community Empowerment.
Viewers will journey back in time to 1916 and learn from an actor playing Victoria Confino, a real 14-year-old girl who immigrated to the United States in 1913. Victoria will show us her home and daily life, tell us her stories, and share how her family keeps their culture alive through food, language, holidays and more. We’ll see how life in 1916 was quite different from today, but also explore how people cope when they move to a new place and are uncertain about the future— an experience as relevant today as it was in her time. Throughout the program, participants will have a chance to ask their own questions about Victoria.
Recommended for ages 6 – 12; fun for parents too
