Share

When: Wednesday, May 19, 2021, 6:30 – 7:30pm ET

Event Location: Zoom

Cost: Free with Museum membership

Offered as an exclusive event for the membership community that is not currently offered to the general public on Zoom, our next virtual event for members looks at two families, the Rogarshevskys and the Wongs, who earned a living in the garment industry in the 20th Century. This program will look at the question, how does work shape who we are, and how do we shape where we work? The Rogarshevsky teenagers worked in factories during the height of the workers’ rights movement in the 1910s, and Mrs. Wong was one of the thousands of Chinese immigrant women who supported their families by making clothes in the 1970s and 80s. How did they enter the industry? What role did garment work and labor unions play in their lives, and what lessons can we learn from their stories?
