Receiving the Irish: The Origins of American Immigration Policy

When: Monday, March 31, 2025, 6:30PM - 7:30PM ET
Event Location: YouTube Live
Cost: Free; Suggested Donation
When Irish immigrants first arrived in the United States in the early 19th-century, they faced prejudice for being Catholic, and for being poor. Many Americans did not welcome them with open arms. But what was the impact of this prejudice against them? How did Irish immigrants respond? And what can this early era of immigration teach us about today?
Join us on March 31st for a special conversation on YouTube Live with historians Dr. Hidetaka Hirota and Dr. Kevin Kenny as they explore these questions by sharing the history of state immigration control and the first deportations of immigrants.
