Celebrate the high holidays with the Tenement Museum in this all-new virtual program and concert! On September 24th, join historian Lila Corwin Berman and Tenement Museum President Annie Polland on YouTube Live as they discuss the way in which immigrant Jews used the marketplace to bring High Holidays into the tenement districts, attracting the attention of the entire city.

We’ll share primary sources, like high holiday tickets found underneath our tenement’s floorboards, advertisements for a cantor with “a voice 500 times sweeter than Caruso,” and holiday prayer books geared to English-speaking children. And just as having a great cantor was a terrific draw, we’ll end the program with a concert where Dr. Jeremiah Lockwood, cantorial scholar and musician, will perform unique interpretations of classic cantorial repertoire.
