Exhibit Conclusion

Sufia Hossain, Yudelka Carrera, Nester Lebron, Atinuke Akinwunmi, Yajaira Gonzalez, Julie Choudhury. We celebrate their contributions to New York City and will forever be inspired by their stories.

Starting a business is one of the most daunting tasks someone can undertake. But the opportunities for self-sufficiency, economic prosperity, and the ability to provide for your family and your community, make it easy to understand why it appeals to so many immigrants and migrants in the United States. Through this photo exhibit, the Tenement Museum and the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS) hope to illuminate the unwavering spirit of New York’s immigrant communities.

As you can see, these stories of perseverance – from the professional to the personal, during financial catastrophes and public health crises – can encourage us all in moments that appear hopeless. We often look to the past to learn how we can grow through adversity, and the stories of these immigrant-owned businesses teach us that we can also look to each other, right now, for help and for inspiration.
