JOB DESCRIPTION:
 

The Lower East Side Tenement Museum is looking for a Maintenance person who will assist with daily maintenance needs.  This is a full time (Thursday – Monday) position that will report to the Director, Facilities.  The salary range is $48,000-$54,000.   Proof of COVID vaccination and booster required to be hired.  

 

Responsibilities Include: 

 

FACILITIES: 

  • Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, coordinate day-to-day in-house repairs and maintenance for Visitor Center, Museum and office space. 
  • Assisting with mopping, vacuuming, and cleaning office and visitor center bathrooms on an as needed basis. 
  • Assist with garbage/recycling on a weekly basis. 
  • In winter, assist with snow shoveling/snow blowing.  
  • Serve as point person for inspections for all required equipment including, but not limited to: HVAC systems, elevators, fire safety equipment, sprinklers, and boiler as needed. 
  • Assist in ordering of maintenance of office equipment and furniture.
  • Handle miscellaneous tasks as assigned by Facilities Manager. 
  • Point person for security and the Facilities team on Sundays and some holidays.
  • Participate in Visitor Center closing procedures by escorting staff to the safe after closing.
  • Hourly walkthroughs on the Visitor Center floor and frequently check-in with staff to ensure the safety of our staff and visitors.  

TENANTS: 

  • Assisting with the repairs and maintenance of all tenant apartments (12, in total), including taking care of day to day issues (leaks, pests, painting, lighting, etc.) under the direction of the Facilities Manager. 
  • Work with Building Super to ensure that all tenant issues are addressed in a timely fashion.   

EVENINGS: 

  • Set up and break down Evening and Development events set up as needed. This includes but is not limited to moving furniture, clearing Visitor Center floor, and removing garbage after event is over.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • At least 5 years’ experience in facilities and/or maintenance work 
  • Knowledge in related maintenance trades including basic electrical, plumbing and have a basic understanding of heating and cooling systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication –must be a team player
  • F95 License Holder preferred but not required
  • Bilingual a plus (Spanish or Chinese preferred)
  • Must be able to lift heavy items as well as to walk and stand for long periods.
  • Hands on personality, a positive attitude, and willing to be flexible 
  • Must be proficient in email and Microsoft Office 
  • Security Guard certificate is preferred but not required
  • Smart phone is required, Museum will reimburse a monthly stipend
