Tenement residents often spent much of their day outside of their apartments. On this tour, you’ll walk the same streets as the Rogarshevsky family did in 1911 before visiting the exhibit of their recreated tenement apartment exhibit inside the Manny Cantor Center. Explore the neighborhood through their eyes as they balanced tradition, work, and fun on the Jewish Lower East Side.
*This tour starts at the Tenement Museum at 103 Orchard Street and ends at the Manny Cantor Center at 197 East Broadway. The walking portion spans 0.6 miles.
As part of the 97 Orchard Street preservation project, this exhibit has been temporarily moved to the Educational Alliance’s Manny Cantor Center.
Day in the Life: 1911 is a special tour with the Educational Alliance’s Manny Cantor Center, a historic social services organization formed in 1889. Explore the connection between this historic community center and our 1910s tenement family, the Rogarshevskys!
Please note: Masking is required on all indoor tours and in the Visitor Center. Children under 5 cannot attend building tours at this time. Instead, they can attend a neighborhood walking tour or visit us virtually.
