Join us on YouTube Live for a free virtual book talk with Ben Katchor, author of The Dairy Restaurant, in conversation with Tenement Museum President, Morris Vogel. Ben will discuss the rich history of Jewish restaurants in New York and the legacy of the Jewish dairy restaurant. Why do these businesses, vegetarian to comply with Jewish kosher law, stand as an important example in the history of eating establishments? We’ll examine the biblical milk-and-meat taboo, the first vegetarian practices, and the invention of the dairy restaurant.

BEN KATCHOR is the author of, among other books, Julius Knipl, Real Estate Photographer; The Cardboard Valise; and The Jew of New York. He was the first cartoonist to receive a MacArthur Fellowship. He teaches at Parsons/The New School in New York City.
