Event Location: YouTube Live

Join us on YouTube Live to explore time capsules —containers of all shapes and sizes that capture a moment. Some are planned, while others are discovered by chance. 97 Orchard Street ia kind of time capsule: a building abandoned for fifty yearsthen reopened as part of the Tenement Museum to help us understand the past. We’ll discuss what the objects inside reveal about the people who once lived there, including the Baldizzis, one of the last families to call 97 Orchard Street home. We’ll also learn about the Westinghouse Time Capsule, which was buried deep underground in Queens at the same time that the Baldizzis were living in the Lower East Side. Then, we will share ways for you to capture your own experiences by making some “2020 Time Capsules” for future historians.

To make your own time capsule, you’ll need:  An empty container that you can close & seal up, like a shoe box, coffee tin, or mason jar -Tape -Paper -Pens, pencils, or crayons -Scissors -Objects to put inside
