Merryl Snow Zegar is an attorney by training, a graduate of Fordham Law School with a BA from the University of CT. She began practicing law in the area of bankruptcy and reorganization at Stroock & Stroock & Lavan in New York City and subsequently served as Deputy General Counsel at Bank Leumi Trust Company of New York and then as Associate General Counsel of the Dime Savings Bank of New York. Later, she worked as an Administrative Law Judge for the City of New York and also taught banking law at NYU’s School of Continuing Education and Professional Studies. Currently, Merryl is the Executive Director and Co-Trustee of the Zegar Family Foundation, founded with her husband, Chuck Zegar; a founding partner of Bloomberg LP, with the principal partner, Michael Bloomberg.

Being bicoastal, Merryl serves in New York as Co-Chair on the Board of the Lower East Side Tenement Museum and on the Emeritus Board of New York’s City Center. Additionally, Merryl is a member of the Board of the Santa Barbara Center for the Performing Arts (Granada Theater) and on the UC Santa Barbara Council for Arts & Lectures.

Together, Merryl and Chuck have four grown sons and five young grandchildren.

Merryl joined the Tenement Museum’s Board in 2011 and has served as co-chair since 2014. Over the years, Merryl, her family, and the Zegar Family Foundation have been extraordinary and generous supporters. We are grateful for their leadership and commitment and are delighted to honor this diverse and multi-generational family who embody our mission to promote a more inclusive and expansive American identity.
