Be a part of our biggest fundraising event of the year by registering for our free/donation-optional live-streamed gala program on May 2nd!

Rebuilding Our Foundations explores the very beginnings of the Museum, and the transformation of a humble tenement into a pathbreaking museum.

Broadcast live from City Winery, hear from Co-Founder Anita Jacobson and her family in a special interview with the Museum, and witness the restoration work on 97 Orchard, as told from the perspective of our Museum Trustees who have overseen the current preservation of our signature historic landmark tenement. Later, join a conversation between Trustee Dr. Christina Greer and Gala honoree Lonnie G. Bunch III, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, about the connections between his work founding the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and the upcoming launch of our new 1860s Joseph and Rachel Moore story. What role can museums and history play in bringing communities together to build a shared future?

This festive evening welcomes you back to 97 Orchard — its foundations and the stories that keep us coming back.
